The questioner saw it on an Australian TV channel in the 1990s.

It was Spanish-speaking.

The cop discovers the ruse when he walks into a bathroom at a gas station.

The woman who played his wife turns out to be a lesbian actress.

The director of the show turns out to be the cop’s cocaine-dealer.

At the end of the movie, the cop decides his life is better in the tv series and he asks the screenwriter to make sure that he wins the lottery in the next episode.
He does and he gets on his bike and rides off into the sunset with the winning lottery ticket in his pocket.

It’s not:

Caché (2005)

The Other Side of the Bed (2002)
