After using the rings on a secret mechanism built into the tower, the Count is crushed to death by the converging clock arms. Lupin and Clarisse watch as the mechanism drains the lake to reveal exquisite ancient [Roman](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roman_Empire) ruins — the true treasure of Cagliostro." ---
