I think it was a 90’s or 00’s drama, a young blonde (?) woman is working for a wealthy family, maybe staying in their large country house. They are in the provinces. She is given a small red ( think) car to get around in, maybe a Renault 5. She does something, maybe has an affair with the husband, I can’t recall, causing a problem. One of the last scenes is where she walks over the lawn to speak to the wife/matriarch who is gardening. There is a frosty exchange, the young woman says she is keeping the car.

I’m almost certain that this is not it because the maid can’t drive a car in this one but otherwise it’s similar:

I’ve learned today that La Cérémonie (1995) is based on real life events and it has at least two more adaptations:

Murderous Maids (2000).

This is a list of all the fiction, inspired by the case:

> The play Les Bonnes (English: The Maids) by French writer Jean Genet often is thought to be based on the Papin sisters, although Genet said this was not the case.\[citation needed\] However, the play deals with the plight of two French maids who resemble the Papin sisters, and highlights the dissatisfaction of the maids with their lot in life, which manifests itself in a hatred for their mistress. Genet's interest in the crime of the Papin sisters stemmed at least partly from his contempt for the m...
