Two guys get into an argument over of a parking spot (at a college campus, I think). Later they discover they are roommates.

The guy who isn’t the protagonist admits he was in the wrong but argued anyway because he was afraid that not standing up for himself would be interpreted as weakness.

Probably from the 1980s or late 1970s.
