Release date: The questioner saw it in 2019-2020 on HBO GO. It wasn’t an HBO original.

Genre: Drama, romance, war.

The title might include: 19XX (e.g.: 1945) and “part 1”.

The movie might be told in two separate perspectives, one is that of the adult male protagonist in a foreign country and the other being that of his young son, living at home.

It takes place in a Spanish-speaking or Italian-speaking country. Spain? Cuba? Puerto Rico?

The male protagonist is not a soldier. He appears strong but he has a kind face and he has aging related spots, although he isn’t very old.

He has a wife and kids in his home country.

His home country is under German (Nazi?) occupation.

Scene A:

Setting: A rural road located in a country that is not the male protagonist’s own.

He’s riding on the back of a truck and notices a black woman walking on the shoulder of the road, carrying a bag. Maybe he jumps off and helps her. Later they have sex and begin a relationship.

* * *

Scene B:

A group of people (Jews?) are talking about the war getting closer to their homeland and they are discussing their future.

* * *

Scene C:

The male protagonist receives a letter from his wife and his mistress notices it which leads to an argument between them.

* * *

Scene D:

Children stealing food and sharing it among themselves. They are trying to avoid getting caught by soldiers.
