$10 Bounty: Documentary of eccentric impoverished artist

I believe it was a French documentary, the man was rather large. He was mentally ill and formally a ballet dancer. Lived in extremely messy apartment and I think the premise of the film was his impending eviction? Featured interviews from his neighbors. A quote from him in the movie was “ la vie a sa propre validité, mais il faut faire un effort”. Believe I watched it on Netflix around 2012-15, been looking for it for a couple years now so any suggestions are appreciated. Even though I don’t remember very much it was important to me, thank you

Was the dancer russian? It could be Rudolf Nureyev:

Thank you for the suggestion, it was a low budget film and the man was in quite bad physical shape. The ballet portion was a small detail from his past

Are you certain the documentary was in french? It could have been “Dancer” about Sergei Polunin:

I’m pretty sure it was in French or English, unsure of the nationality of the man he lived in a large rundown apartment building where the majority of the documentary took place simply talking to him. Seemed low budget

I think it is “the believer”https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0247199/

Thank you for the interesting suggestion, will add it to my watch list :)

Reminds me of Quebranto (2013). I was watching it the other day; foreign documentary, the guy is an ex-dancer/actor, living in poverty…

Ooh a very similar film! Thank you for the suggestion it looks like it’s worth a watch

It’s long shot, but maybe?

Serge Lifar Musagète (2005)
