The black box is integral to the story and is about the size of a 70s camera case with a shoulder strap and electronics inside to unlock and start expensive cars. The thief is sometimes not shown, just a well-dressed person with the box hanging at hip level as they walk near a car and show the door unlocking behind the window. English language, color, possible comedic moments, US market, possible made for TV movie. Possibly mid-70s to very early 80s.

Sadly, no. Good movie, but not the one I’m looking for. As I recall, the movie had a light-hearted made-for-TV feel, like “The Girl, the Gold Watch and Everything”, or “Escape from Witch Mountain”. Thanks all the same.
