Animated series about a boy and an owl, strange flying creatures and soul

I’m looking for old foreign animated series for my friend. He watched in the early 2000s (possibly from the 90s). It aired on Kazakhstan TV, dubbed in Russian. The main character was a teenage boy (about 12–18 years old). He went on a journey and helped different people or creatures. He had a limited number of lives (5, 7, or 9), and each time he died, a bird-like spirit took his soul. There was a large anthropomorphic owl, walking on two legs, who carried books and gave the boy advice. A small flying creature (possibly a fairy) that made sparks when snapping fingers. The owl lived inside a big tree. The tone of the series was dark and not colorful — the colors reminded me of “Maya the Bee” from the 90s. In the final episode, the boy used his last life and died. The small flying creature told everyone he had helped them. The people united and brought him back to life. The show was definitely foreign — possibly French, Spanish, or maybe even Eastern European.

Somebody found.
