Hi! I saw this movie in the mid 2000’s at home but I think it’s older. I barely remember it, but what I know is this:
It is a live-action, probably Japanese or Chinese. It was very colorful and had to do with some religion that had gods or something like that – important “rulers” that had the power to judge. One of the characters had to do something important but failed, and everything became a mess. In the end, he dies (I think) and the gods allow him to reincarnate as a donkey owned by his best friend (I guess).
I was really little when watched it and it disturbed me a lot, so I’m assuming it was not a children’s movie. But now that I’m grown, I wanted to rewatch it and finally understand what it really is about.

No, that’s not it… the film is older, like from the 70s, 80s or 90s. Or maybe early 2000s I’m not sure
