A man leads escapees of some sort in an underground earthen tunnel, maybe a ditch. They halt as soldiers, maybe Nazis, are above them. One soldier, perhaps a general, leans on a cane which comes through the ground above the escapees and into the tunnel area. The man uses his hand to resist the cane dropping into the tunnel, injuring his hand. The soldiers move on and the escapees continue. My thought was that the man was played by Peter O’Toole but it doesn’t seem to match up with any of his movies (not that I’ve seen them all). My memory is from seeing on TV in the 70s or 80s. Many thanks for attention and any answers/suggestions.
