Looking for a nice PG-style movie from late 1980’s or very early 1990’s about a young man from India who dreams of coming to either Canada or the United States to start a new life and find a girlfriend. This is a very warmhearted nice film, primarily a vehicle for the young male Indian actor. I believe his last name may have been Choudry.

I have a feeling it was an independent film. It certainly didn't look like a typical Hollywood movie, was in English, so i'm also sure it wasn't a Bollywood production. I'm not sure why I had Canada in mind, but perhaps I am recalling some of the credits which may have had a Canadian connection-possibly funding or just filming locations. Sorry but I can't recall anything else about it. I may have seen it on something like Cinemax or HBO back when it was only a couple of years old.
