Disaster movie where they build a ship which gets destroyed, but they have a second ship

I can only remember one plot point. Half the movie is spent building a ship which is then destroyed, but it is then revealed, very casually, that they had built a second ship so it doesn’t matter.

I think the ship is a space ship, but I also remember it being at sea, maybe on an oil rig.
