I have this scene etched into my mind as a kid and would love to find the movie:
It’s either a cowboy western movie, or an old adventure film prior to the 1980s. My father loved older movies from the 60s and 70s, and I assume it would be from those decades.
A group of people are inside either an old cave or a mine. A man, who I believe is smoking a pipe, notices some kind of treasure on the wall of the cave. It may have been a crystal but I think it might have been an old cross. He removes if from the wall with a chisel or a rock hammer and turns away from the wall, admiring his find. Behind him, the wall bursts and a flood of water rushes in, threatening to drown the group, who then have to scramble to safety.
Unfortunately, that’s all I’ve got!.. and why I haven’t been able to find it.
It is an old adventure movie from 1959, that is almost the 1960s, the era from which your father loved watching movies. The following are all in the movie (see the video below): Cave, crystal on the wall, hammer, water bursts through the wall, flooding, they scramble to safety.
