Help identifying blizzard movie

Quite a broad brief here:

Could be a movie or TV show. Seen during the 80’s in Portugal but likely a US or UK import.

I remember a people trapped a house during a snow blizzard. Then something inside the house - a molecular machine or similar - breaks. The timeline or dimension then changes completely.

Can’t give anymore details unfortunately.

Have never been able to find out the title but stumbled across this website so thought i’d try.

Any ideas what this could be?
