[Help Me Find This Movie] Romantic Comedy Seen on HBO Taiwan Over a Decade Ago – A Woman, a Train Station, and a Heartbreaking Return

I watched this movie on HBO in Taiwan more than ten years ago. I think this is a Hollywood movie, It was a romantic comedy, but I can’t recall the title. One scene has stayed with me ever since:

The female protagonist somehow ends up in a rural town. Whenever she gets upset, she runs to the train station, trying to leave—but no matter when she goes, the train never comes. Sitting by the platform is always an old man, waiting for his daughter (or granddaughter) to return by train.

One night, she storms off to the station again. It’s late, and aside from the old man, there are no other passengers. He tells her that his daughter (or granddaughter) is finally coming home tonight. She looks around quietly, thinking there’s no way a train will arrive. The old man explains that his daughter went to the city when she was young, worked hard, became successful, but hadn’t contacted him in years. Now, she’s finally coming home.

Then, in the distance, the sound of a train approaches. It pulls into the station. The staff open the cargo compartment—and inside is a coffin. The old man says, “My daughter (or granddaughter) has finally come home.” The staff unload the coffin and help him take it away.

It’s a romantic comedy in the vein of Goldie Hawn, but I can’t remember who starred in it…

The above content reflects the most profound part of the film for me. I think this is the concept of “cherishing” that the whole film wants to convey. It is also the story of this old man that inspired the heroine to look back and cherish the present.

This is really just a guess, maybe?:

Quote from the below Wikipedia plot summary:
”Since then Caroline has returned every year on Valentine’s Day to the same train station to wait for him.”
