A man and a woman become stuck/trapped on an island (or maybe in a house) for some reason. They fall in love. Years later the man opens a hospital in Africa (or at some other place), and he regularly writes letters to the woman. The last letter is written by his son and in the letter the son informs the woman that his dad died.
