Can someone spot this movie? I remember only a scene of the movie. Dark gloomy setting (black wood) in a church or court room. A wife hangs herself suddenly at the shock of everyone as a spiteful gesture of defiance/ bitterness to her husband. Despair. Life inside a religious community. The actress looks like Natalie Portman. She wore a long black dress and a wide hat. Sometimes a black bonnet. Seemed like a drama + history film. Man dressed in large black hat, white collar, black pants. When his wife hung herself, we see close up of his shocked face and everyone is quiet. Not much music in the movie. The VVitch (2015)
seems similar to what you describe, Puritanical and very gloomy
and a lot of bad things happen, but the mother doesn’t hang herself.
