"I occasionally try to track down movies I watched as a kid using the few scenes I still remember. I’ve been trying to identify this one for a long time, but I remember so little that I’ve never been able to find it. Someone suggested that this subreddit might be the best place to ask.
I’m looking for a movie I watched as a kid, so I think it was released sometime between the late 1990s and the early 2010s.
Maybe it was an American drama, or possibly a dramedy.
The only scene I remember clearly is a man talking to a boy something like:
“Potato number one, potato number two, or potato number three. Which one do you want?”
All three potatoes were identical. I think the man was trying to cheer the boy up.
I’m much less certain about the rest. I think the man may have been some kind of performer-possibly a magician, illusionist, comedian, stage entertainer, or something similar. I also vaguely remember that he used to be famous but had lost everything by that point, and maybe regained public attention or returned to performing near the end of the movie. However, I could easily be wrong about these details.
Unfortunately, that’s all I can remember. The potato scene is the only part I’m completely confident about."
