Watched this movie around November or December 1986. It was an old b/w movie, took place in horse and buggy era, old houses, mansion type. Starts out with 2 men and two women ( two sister) with their fiancée standing by the fireplace, their parents were meeting in a room discussing with the parents of their fiancée about allowing them to each get married. One sister excuses herself saying she would be right back. The next scene shows her walking past a closed door and over hearing her parents admit that she was born an illegitimate child. Horrified, she goes back to her sister announcing that she didnt feel well and was going to go lay down. She goes upstairs and shoots and kills herself. Next scene shows the remaining sister going through heart ache after heart ache. She loses her child in a carriage wreck, her husband gets killed, she takes in a foster child and the very last scene shows her finally being able to show love to a little boy she has fostered and plans to adopt. It was christmas eve, theres a knock on the door, its social services thats come to take the boy to another home. Shes left alone. I can not remember any of the actors names. I did watch it on tv in Dalton ga in the evening around November- December 1986. It was the saddest movie Ive ever watched would appreciate any help you can give me. Ty.

No, watched it last night. It sounded so much like it but it wasnt. My movie was older and in the end, not beginning was when social service shows up to take little Tommy (i think) leaving her alone again… it was christmas eve. The start of my movie was of the two sisters and their fiancees standing in front of a fireplace waiting on their parents to approve their marriages. Please anyone that knows this movie Id appreciate your help. Ty
this one i am struggling to find. can you remember anything else about the movie? are you thinking older than 1941? the main plot is the foster kid?
