I am guessing about 1984, called something like Butcher Bob. He had a hatch in shop where he threw scraps, and unbeknownst to him it was mutating into a substance called Balognium… Then aliens arrive to steal it because their ships run on Balognium for fuel…
Anyone else remember this? Corny beyond description but awesome
