Movie about a mother who ran away or abandoned her family to discover herself and finally was found but may not return?

This movie is not it. The mother was having an identity crisis and decided to leave. I don’t think she intended to leave for good, but, she did not give information about her whereabouts. She did end up living with a family or an open minded couple. She did seem to begin feeling better about herself I seem to remember, but, it seems I remember by the end of the movie she needed more time. I remember the mother was a dark haired woman.
The movie is similar to the premise of a recent series on one of the pay movie channels.
Definitely before 2016 I am certain. Your suggestion was 1996, I wonder if that is in the neighborhood of time.
