Hello,
I watched a US TV movie in France which I’m unable to find. I saw this TV movie in the early 2000s, so the TV movie was probably made in the 1980s or 1990s. The TV movie is set in the 1950s-1960s in a small industrial town in the US. It tells the story of a single mother of three or fours kids which struggle with debt her husband left before abandonning the family. If I’m right, she is even fired of the factory where she works as a clerk. Then, a mysterious man arrives in the town and become an acquaintance of the single mother, being allowed to live in her house. It appears that the man is hiding his past and seems to be linked with the mafia. At one point he refuses to leave the house as a car is awaiting in front of the house. I remember other scenes of the TV movie :
-
At one point the man is seen helping to install lights in the street, probably because of an upcoming event in the small town
-
At one point the man discuss the opportunity to invest in a laundry (or washing machine) with the single mother
-
Near the end of the TV movie, the daughter of the single mother vanished, then to be brought back home by a policeman which tell the single mother that is daughter was assaulted by the pastor/priest of the small town
-
The TV movie ends with the family travelling by car and discussing the fact that the man has left
I don’t know if it could help, but the actor playing the mysterious man was looking where similar to Peter Falk, even if it’s not him.
I do a lot of search in the database of “Hallmark Hall of Fame” movies because many of their films where distributed in France, but I’m unable to locate the TV movie.
Thanks for you help.
