Hello I’m trying to find a movie. I think it was made in the late 90s to early 2000s. Its about a weathy family that was held hostage in their home. In the beginning there was a scene where the intruders were following the family around town. They were in a white van. I think the family was parked outside a school and there was a scene where a teenage girl was getting into her family’s ride and she flipped off one of the intruders. She looked goth or emo. After this the intruders followed them back to their house where they did a home invasion.
Might it have been Desperate Hours, a 1990 film directed by Michael Cimino that starred Mickey Rourke and Anthony Hopkins? It has been several years since I last watched it, and I must confess I don’t remember the specific details you mentioned (white van, girl flipping off intruders), and the time frame is a few years earlier. But that movie is about an escaped convict and his companions choosing a house to invade, taking the family hostage, so that they can hide from the police for a day or two. The owners of the home (played by Anthony Hopkins and Mimi Rogers) were going through a nasty separation, and they had a resentful and rebellious teenage daughter who may well have flipped someone off. I remember she had a boyfriend whom the father disapproved of.
Another one to check out would be Cape Fear (1991).
There is a criminal (DeNiro) out for revenge that stalks a family and eventually
holds them captive. Juliette Lewis played the teenage daughter.
I remember trailers for something similar, “Safe Room”.
